Welcome to the ancient Church in Iowa City!
Welcome! Are you interested in visiting an Orthodox Church for the first time?
Welcome to our church! If you would like to visit us (722 E College St, Iowa City):
Parking is available on the streets near the church. You can also park at the Chauncey Swan ramp located 2.5 blocks west of the church on College Street (it's free on Sundays). Handicapped spots are available directly in front of the church on the street. As a non-Orthodox visitor, you are welcome to just stand or sit and pray with us. The best way to learn Orthodoxy is to experience it with your senses and, most importantly, your heart. You don't have to anything particular you see people around you doing. Just be with us in the presence of the Living God. Please be mindful that according to ancient Tradition, only members of the Holy Eastern Orthodox Church participate in the Holy Mysteries (Sacraments), of the Orthodox Church, so if you see people lining up (such as to receive Communion), please refrain from getting in line. If you have questions about this, Fr. Symeon would be happy to explain it. If you are a member of the Orthodox Church, welcome!
If you a member of another parish of our Antiochian Archdiocese or another jurisdiction in communion with the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, welcome to our community! Like many Antiochian parishes, our parishioners have family and cultural backgrounds associated with many different Orthodox countries and jurisdictions of our Holy Orthodox Church. Here is a list of canonical Orthodox jurisdictions with a presence in America in which ouf Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch is in communion. If you plan to visit and receive Holy Communion or one of the other Mysteries, please send Fr. Symeon a note so he will be expecting you. |
