St Raphael
Orthodox Church

722 E College Street, Iowa City

VIsit us

Come Thrive with Us

We are a multi-ethnic church committed to putting Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior first in our daily lives,
worshipping beautifully together, connecting in fellowship, and serving Iowa City and surrounding communities.
As part of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America,
we practice an ancient Eastern Christian faith that transforms both us and the world around us.

Faith and Food, Service and Song

Faith. The basis of our faith is the Nicene Creed. We have a multitude of worship services throughout the year, celebrating God's goodness and partaking of the Body and Blood of Christ together. Orthodox Christianity calls us to be more than just "Sunday Christians" by imitating the saints who have gone before us.
Food. We enjoy meals together at least weekly and at other get-togethers for learning, fellowship, and fundraising for those in need. Being a diverse congregation, we share foods from many nations—and we follow traditional Orthodox fast periods that are basically vegan. So we have lots of great recipes in our international-yet-local cookbook.
Service. Jesus commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. Visit our Get Involved page for ways you can participate in service to others and the church.
Song. Our worship is mostly sung and mostly in English, and our music is full of Scripture. Our musical style varies from Byzantine to Russian, with Georgian (the country of) and others depending on the time in the service and the time of year. If you like to sing, sing with us.

Our mission is to worship one God in Trinity and share the good news of Jesus with each other, people from all backgrounds, our neighbors, and the world. We do this through worshipping beautifully, connecting in fellowship, serving those in need, and providing spiritual teaching for daily living.
